Getting over a love breakup is not exactly the same as living a romantic comedy in real life, so some rituals to attract positive energy according to vastu principles are within our reach after such an experience, especially if what we want is to open up to live a new relationship.

Shilpa Khurana, a Delhi-based vastukar, says that red roses do not meet the vastu requirements at all: “Sorry to burst your bubble, but thorns have a disastrous impact on relationships. Whenever you are going to give a bouquet of roses, insists that the florist cut off the thorns,” he says.

Honor your corner of love

Not everyone appreciates Valentine’s Day, especially for those who have been single for a long time, recently divorced, or stuck in ambiguous relationship limbo, it can be quite toxic! Follow these vastu rituals to avoid this feeling: “The southwest represents the corner of vastu love. To attract new love, keep a figurine of monogamous birds in pairs here, such as a pair of lovebirds or swans. Then, burn some oils here . sandalwood or rose essentials in an oil diffuser, and you’ll see suitors lining up at your door, like bees to honey,” laughs Namrataa Kripallani, a Pune-based MahaVastukar.

If you feel your home could use an energy overhaul, perhaps a feng shui home refresh is in order. Or maybe a vastu update?  Both philosophies offer advice for improving the energy flow, though there are also notable differences between the two practices. So which is right for you—feng shui or vastu?

“Feng shui focuses on the free flow of qi [energy] in a space,” says Manasi Thakkur, a Mumbai-based astro-vastu counselor who combines both modalities when working with clients. An ancient Chinese philosophy, the practice involves the arrangement of furniture, decor, and layout to best promote positive energy in a space. Vastu, on the other hand, is a traditional Indian architectural doctrine based on historical texts that outline best practices when constructing and designing buildings. “Vastu focuses on the alignment of a building with the forces of nature,”

With that, consider this checklist to figure out whether you should adopt feng shui, vastu, or use a blend of both. “It all depends on the need, requirement, and feasibility of the client,” Thakkur says.
